Leaving Tulum to Coba

The photos on the right are of the road to Coba leaving Tulum. It's a very easy drive. I think it is about 42 kilometers. Maybe a 1/2 hour drive. It's a 2 lane road with no shoulders. Not much traffic. Jungle on both sides of the road. There are definitely some potholes to watch out for. I stayed in Tulum for 3 days and am going to spend the night in Coba before going to Chichen Itza.

I filled up with gas in Tulum. The next Pemex station is in Chemax. I'm not sure but believe there are less than 20 stations in the states of the Yucatan and Quintana Roo. Always stop to fill up when you get the chance.

This is my first trip to Coba to see the ruins. There are not that many places to stay so decided on the Club Med. I didn't make reservations. It's normally easier and cheaper to just walk in and negotiate a rate. The Club Med is close to the ruins and on Lake Coba. It is supposed to be a nice place but according to their Internet rate, a little high priced. I guess I will find out when I get there. It's 10:00 am. Time for a beer. It's July and just had a quick rain storm. The temperature is around 95 degrees but feels much hotter because of the humidity. The top on the Jeep is down and I am having a great time.

There is not much to the town of Coba. A few places to eat, Post Office, Farmacia, and a few stores.

Some Potholes
Small Market
I found the Club Med without problems. It is hard to get lost around here. Not that many roads. I pulled into the parking area and went into the lobby. They wanted $70 (US) a night. Got them down to $50.00. The place looked nice but the rooms were terrible. To small and cramped.
There was a sign across from the hotel on the pier that said no swimming. Crocodiles. I believe them.

The hotel was all right except for the rooms and some of the other guests. There are not that many places to stay and the Club Med gets a lot of tour busses. There was a German tour group in and they were very obnoxious and rude. The pool and grounds were good. I never ate in the restaurant. There was a small place on the corner that had tables outside and was cheaper. The food was great. Saw the ruins (a lot of walking involved) and wandered around some of the shops. The jungle atmosphere of the ruins was fantastic but not sure if I would come back again. Plenty of other places to see. A few pictures of the ruins are shown below. You can only see so many pyramids before they all look the same. The only thing you can do is say that you were there.
